Ruth’s music is steeped in both ancient traditions and modernist indie-folk. Her voice is trained and ethereal, unique and enchanting. She’s a multi-instrumentalist, but her focus and instrument of choice is the pedal harp. Her blend of Americana and chamber music was first heard on a pair of 2011/2012 EPs. Her shimmering 2013 album This is the Dream captures Acuff’s singular songcraft and exquisite breeze-borne ballads, a sound that evokes organic earthiness and celestial atmospheres. With her 2014 EP release To the Moon she proves unusually adept at mingling the real and the surreal in a tribute to lost loved ones. For a listening session guaranteed to optimize your emotional wellness, Ruth Acuff (whose extended family includes country music legend Roy Acuff) brings her unique dreamscapes to take you to a place where you lose yourself, or if your prefer, find yourself.

PRESS QUOTES

“Mixing the ethereal and earthy in a remarkable way, Acuff’s songs are lush and lilting, occupying the part of the Venn diagram where circles of folk-rock and chamber music meet.” Aarik Danielsen, The Columbia Daily Tribune (Feb 20, 2014)

“…the gentle strokes of her harp and soft lyrics cast a tranquil aura over the room…captivated their audience with original lyrics and an authentic, indie-folk sound.” Christa Penning, Vox Magazine (Mar 01, 2013)

“…she proves unusually adept at mingling the real and the surreal. Emotionally and spiritually, “To the Moon” is a mix of memory and mystery, the natural and supernatural, who remains and what they have left to learn.” Aarik Danielsen, The Columbia Daily Tribune (Nov 14, 2014)

“Singer-songwriter Ruth Acuff uses plucked harp strings and spiritual tuning to blur the lines between indie- and folk-rock into a lovely, ethereal haze.” Aarik Danielsen, The Columbia Daily Tribune (Dec 12, 2013)

“A fanciful imagination and a firm footing in the stuff of earth come together like dance partners in “This is the Dream,” a shimmering new set from singer, songwriter and harpist Ruth Acuff.” Aarik Danielsen, The Columbia Daily Tribune (Feb 17, 2013)

“It’s easy to miss the Roy Acuff connection when watching and listening to Ruth because there are many differences between the two. He was a country star; she plays folksy pop.” Chad Painter, Vox Magazine (Jan 22, 2009)
